The Southern Ocean is full of mysteries and secrets, yet to discover and understand. The European funded project SO-CHIC, one of the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Projects, aims to unlock understanding of some of the key Southern Ocean processes, which represent the main limitation of the current generation of climate models in their way to represent past and future global heat and carbon cycles. The project proposes to tackle a significant gap in our understanding of the global climate by bringing together old and new observations, along with new specific modelling efforts developed in the different groups within Europe.
After almost 15 months since its launch and after unexpected events, SO-CHIC is summarizing its journey so far in a Newsletter. You will discover the project’s latest news and developments, as well as interesting reads from the consortium and beyond.
