The EU Commission presents the OceanEye initiative

On 3 June 2026, the European Commission formally adopted the OceanEye, Europe’s flagship ocean observation initiative and a landmark moment for ocean stewardship.

At its core is the Digital Twin of the Ocean, combining real-time data, artificial intelligence, and advanced modelling to simulate ocean conditions and support evidence-based policymaking. By 2030, this tool will transform how Europe monitors, understands, and responds to the pressures facing our ocean.
