The countries of the Atlantic Area have the world’s best offshore wind resource. There is huge opportunity to develop a viable industry to meet targets for Green Energy production. This project contributes to the transition from fixed to floating platform systems for use in deeper water and more exposed sites in the Atlantic Area. The project has three main objectives: (1) The assessment of wind energy potential in the Atlantic Area choosing the best locations for wind energy farms; (2) Studying the feasibility of having different types of floating structures: semi-submersibles, TLP and spar type; (3) Considering farms with these platforms for realistic assessments of production, costs and economic feasibility, taking account logistics, maintenance planning and risk assessment.
