MarRisk aims to ensure smart and sustainable growth of the coastal areas of Galicia and northern Portugal by assessing the most important coastal risks in climate change scenarios. Floods, intensification of extreme events, toxic algae episodes and coastal erosion are examples of risks to be analysed in order to improve the resilience of traditional economic sectors and other emerging sectors such as marinarenewables. In this way, the adaptation of the area of cooperation to possible disasters will be improved and applications and services will be developed to ensure a coordinated response, as environmental risks require a trans-border scope. MarRisk will assess the evolution of the coastal climate, improving the current analysis resolution, and will enable monitoring and surveillance systems. MarRisk will put decision-making tools at the disposal of public administrations, the productive fabric and society at large to improve coastal management.
