Unveiling the role of G20 in the implementation and legacy of the Ocean Decade

Event date: 8 April 2024, 17:00-18:30

Date and time: 8 April 2024, 17:00-18:30

Location: Auditorium, Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (PRBB)

The panel will convene a diverse array of stakeholders, such as scientists, civil society, and policymakers, to explore the interplay between the goals, expected outcomes, and challenges set forth by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (Ocean Decade) and the G20 process. It aims to shed light on the role the previous, current, and future G20 Troikas have in supporting the Ocean Decade implementation and building its legacy. This panel at the Ocean Decade Conference will be an opportunity to better integrate G20 and the Ocean Decade, considering the role and views of scientific institutions and the private sector.

Jose Luiz Moutinho and and Laura Mc Donagh will represent the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance and the OKEANO CSA in the panel discussion on Ocean Science and G20, highlighting AAORIA and its mission to enhance marine research, innovation, and cooperation throughout the Atlantic Ocean.

The conveners of this panel are UNESCO Chair for Ocean Sustainability, World Economic Forum, Brazilian Biodiversity Fund, Global Compact, Ocean Stewardship Coalition and National Institute for Ocean Research. The event is supported by the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance and BlueMissionAA.
