Vocational training; skills development; knowledge production; innovation; The focus of the maritime academy is on vocational training and on an integrated approach for skills development, knowledge production and innovation. The academy primarily targets local unemployed youth with an interest in maritime studies and the oceans economy. The qualifications – 20 short courses, 14 certificate programmes and 18 diploma programmes – will be accredited by the South African Maritime Safety Authority.
