The BIOFISH-QoL Project is a collaborative project (Portugal-Mozambique) that aims to improve knowledge in biology, ecology and socio-economic aspects of fishing in the Bons Sinais estuary. The project takes an integrative approach to improve fisheries management and quality of life. BIOFISH-QoL includes the following general objectives: (1) environmental description of the estuary and fishing zones; (2) inventory of fish diversity; (3) study of the biology of key species of commercial interest, of the population dynamics and of the recruitment of species with socioeconomic interest; (4) characterization of fishing gear and of the fishing fleet; (5) socioeconomic importance of the fishing activity; (6) training and definition of management strategies for subsistence / artisanal estuarine fishing.
