The Doctoral Programme on Biology and Ecology of Global Changes (BEGC PhD) is committed in the understanding of evolutionary processes and adaptive strategies of biological/ecological systems, including the consequences upon public health and human well-being related issues. Research activities focus on defining and understanding critical natural and environmental resource problems, and on developing knowledge and management strategies to address them. A limited number of grants might be allocated to students coming from Mozambique, Angola, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, São Tomé e Principe and Timor-Leste, as a contribution to the much needed education of scientists in those countries, provided they fulfill minimum academic criteria. Preference is given to the education and training of staff from Universities or State Agencies of those countries, so that they are obliged, at the end of their PhD, to return to their home countries and or have a position at their home institutions.
