The Centro Nacional Patagónico (CENPAT) is a multidisciplinary center for scientific and technological research, dependent on CONICET and reference in Patagonia Argentina. The range of scientific research carried out today at the Centre covers the biology and management of aquatic and terrestrial resources, oceanography and meteorology, social sciences, geology, paleontology, and studies of diversity, systematics and evolution. This variety of topics has accompanied Patagonia’s accelerated process of social and economic growth, based in particular on the use of its natural resources, the focus of most of CENPAT’s research. CENPAT aims to be an interdisciplinary scientific-technological node committed to society, which promotes free and critical thinking, promotes social return and knowledge transfer for cultural and economic development with a strong regional focus, integrates studies with environmental and social issues, within a framework of respect and commitment to human rights , cultural diversity, the natural environment and the values of the institution. Our mission is to: (1) Promote the generation of technological scientific knowledge according to environmental, socioeconomic and cultural problems, through interdisciplinary work, free and critical thinking; (2) Encourage valuation and respect for history, cultural diversity and biodiversity; (3) Promote knowledge generation, human resources training, socialization and transfer of knowledge to the community at large, and cooperation with governmental and non-governmental agencies working for the common good.
