Towards a renewed Transatlantic partnership

The EU-US summit has been held on the 15th of June 2021 in Brussels, and set a new joint agenda for EU-US cooperation, marking the beginning of a renewed transatlantic partnership in the post-pandemic era.

One of the key thematic discussed has its focus on a shared commitment for fostering green growth and protect our planet, envisioned by the implementation of the Paris Agreement, acceleration of a climate-neutral future, reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 and a guarantee of a just transition that leaves no one behind. In this context, EU and US leaders agreed on the goal of conserving or protecting at least 30 percent of the global land and 30 percent of the global oceans by 2030.

The renewed transatlantic partnership reinforces that cooperation is crucial for ensuring an effective and just transition for a better future, cleaner environment, and healthier oceans. On this last point, the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance has been mentioned as a pillar to keep cooperating in ocean research and to protect our ocean toward a sustainable blue economy, sustainable fishing,  prevention of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing and fight against marine littering. The All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance is indeed a concrete example of how it is possible to cooperate and share the effort for achieving common goals.  So, as following the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance motto, let’s CONNECT, ACT and COOPERATE!
