One Ocean Summit – Brest Declaration

After three days of discussions and debates, some 40 Heads of State and Government responded positively to the invitation of the President of the French Republic Emanuel Macron to commit for the ocean at the One Planet Summit for the Ocean in Brest.

Under the auspices of the 2022 French Presidency of EU, the event addressed 4 main themes: the protection of marine ecosystems, the fight against pollution, the fight against climate change, and ocean governance (at political and private sector levels) to discuss the future of our global ocean.

At the same time, the Brest Declaration was being finalized with the most important high-level commitments reached, Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission announced half a billion euros in EU funds, under the “Mission to Restore our Oceans by 2030” focusing on Europe’s 5 seas and test solutions specific to each of them. The goal? Bring innovative solutions to regenerate the ocean to the market.
