Call from APECS and SOOS

The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) and the Southern Ocean Observing System (SOOS) are looking for two early-career scientists to join the SOOS Southern Ocean Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiative.

The successful applicant will have working knowledge of observational research of the Southern Ocean with a particular interest in EDI issues. The APECS representative will attend EDI working group meetings; help the co-chairs to coordinate the meetings and other working group activities; and will be an important link between APECS and SOOS. We are interested in receiving applications from any country, including those not yet represented on the EDI Leadership Group. It would be particularly valuable (although not required) for the applicant to be a member of the APECS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Project Group, to aid coordination between SOOS and APECS activities.

For specific questions on this position, please contact Alyce Hancock (hancock(at)soos.aq).

The position will be for 2 years and non-salaried, but there will be travel reimbursement for attending one meeting if the working group holds an in-person meeting during your term, as well as the potential for co-authorship of publications.

To apply, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • early career researcher (up to 5 years post-PhD or highest degree)
  • Have a research background that fits the focus of the group
