Description:
Escola Azul (Blue School) is an educational program developed by the Portuguese Sea Ministry aiming at promoting ocean literacy in Portugal. This program acknowledges and guides portuguese schools towards including ocean thematics in the scholar curricula, creating an ocean literacy community that connects schools, the sea industry, municipalities, universities and other entities enrolled in ocean education. This program further intends to stimulate schools to explore the ocean outside the classroom in a structured, interdisciplinary and vertical approach by involving local communities and different partners. Escola Azul develops an educational project that promotes a better knowledge of the Ocean and its influence on our lives, while not forgetting our own impact on the Ocean. A Blue School is able to actively engage the school community in these themes, articulating all its activities and initiatives with the local community and the different players of the sea sector.
