Brazilian Ocean Acidification Network

Initiative Type: Network

Belém Statement Area: Ocean Observation

Initiative Location: Brazil

Time Frame: 2012-Ongoing

The Brazilian Research Network on Ocean Acidification (BrOA) aims to integrate Brazilian researchers into a broad national network of interdisciplinary cooperation in Ocean Acidification studies, in addition to contributing to ongoing international programs (e.g. LAOCA, GOA-ON). The group operates in different environments along the Brazilian coast, from coastal and estuarine ecosystems to the open water ocean regime. The following lines of research are developed by the broa group researchers: (A) Biogeochemistry of Coastal and Estuarine Ecosystems; (B) Effects of ocean acidification and changes in hydrographic properties on the metabolism of marine organisms; (C) Study of proxies for evaluation and reconstitution of the marine carbonate system; (D) Oceanic and Biogeochemical Modeling for Ocean Acidification Studies; (E) Physical processes and biogeochemical carbon exchange controllers in the air-to-sea interface.
