Initiative Type: Projects
Belém Statement Area: Climate Variability, Ocean Observation
Initiative Location: Brazil,France
Time Frame: 2016
Description:
The FOCO2 project was set by the interdisciplinary and interinstitutional partnerships of the Coastal Biogeochemistry Research Group and derives from the need to acquire technological equipment for the continuous measurement CO2 partial pressure (pCO2). This equipment allowed the continuously, real time assessment of CO2 fluxes between the atmosphere and marine waters, performed for the first time in areas of the Brazilian equatorial platform. In addition to this advance, the group conducts studies focusing on the biogeochemical carbon cycle in the coastal region. Our aim is to know the variability of carbon fluxes (quality, complexation capacity, and reactivity of organic matter) over an extended time scale, to make a statistical evaluation
