About the Project
Do you want to contribute to shaping the future of sustainable food from the ocean? We are seeking an Early Career Ocean Professional to join an exciting international project in collaboration with OKEANO. The work supports the AAORIA vision for a sustainable Atlantic by synthesizing knowledge on societal acceptance and sustainability of aquaculture.
The Horizon Europe funded OKEANO Coordination and Support Action (CSA) provides coordinated operational, governance and strategic support to the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA), enabling implementation of the All-Atlantic Declaration. It strengthens long-term Atlantic-wide cooperation in marine research and innovation and supports inclusive, high-impact outcomes for Atlantic communities through stakeholder engagement, capacity building, thematic coordination across priority areas, communication dissemination and impact.
Your Role
You will prepare a concise, science-based report summarizing best practices and research gaps related to sustainable aquaculture. This report will inform future AAORIA initiatives and policy discussions.
Key responsibilities:
- Review and synthesize existing literature on societal acceptance of sustainable aquaculture.
- Summarize challenges, best practices, and key recommendations identified in relevant sources.
- Identify research gaps that AAORIA could address.
- Ensure findings cover all parts of the Atlantic and multiple trophic levels.
- Collaborate with the OKEANO Secretariat for feedback, quality control, and publication.
A non-exhaustive list of relevant literature will be provided.
Timeline
Estimated workload: Full-time for up to 2 months. Draft report to be presented to the AAORIA Steering Group in spring 2026.

- Ability to work independently and collaborate across institutions.

This project follows up on the All-Atlantic Declaration, which emphasizes developing innovative, outcome-oriented science to support sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. Sustainable aquaculture is essential for global food security and environmental resilience. The AAORIA Forum 2025 highlighted the importance of societal acceptance, inclusive dialogue, and participatory frameworks to ensure success.
