The MicroALGAs: produção integrada e VALORização da biomassa e das suas diversas aplicações (AlgaValor) project has as general objective the integrated production of microalgae and the valorization of its biomass and extracts in different applications, and is planned the development and launch of new products in the markets of human food, animal nutrition, cosmetics and biofertilizers. To this end, new production processes are proposed, with increased sustainability. This overall objective can be disaggregated into a set of specific objectives, each achieved in a specific subproject (SP): (1) valorization of microalgae for human food (SP 1); (2) valorization of microalgae for animal feed (SP 2); (3) valorization of microalgae for natural cosmetics (SP 3); (4) development of new processes, including open reactors of “new generation”, and optimization of existing processes, in order to obtain gains in scale and efficiency (SP 4); (5) development of agricultural biofertilizers from microalgae and the use of agro-industrial waste as inputs for the production of “biological microalgae” in a circular economy logic (SP 5); (6) finally, it is intended that the ALGAVALOR project has a wide multisectoral impact, national and international, in the various rows to be tested (SP 6). The ALGAVALOR project will develop R&D around the applications of microalgae (fresh paste, powder and/or extracts) generating new products rich in biomass and/or microalgae extracts, having as key end-users partners in target markets: human and animal and cosmetic food. New processes will also be optimised and developed, including new generation open reactors and developed “biological” low-cost cultivation media.
