Since 1994 the German Alfred Wegener Institute and the Instituto Antárctico Argentino jointly operate the Dallmann Laboratory (King George Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctic Peninsula, Coordinates: 62°14 ́S, 58°40 ́W), where researchers from Argentina, the Netherlands and Germany work together in the Austral summer (October to April). Here, up to 14 researchers at a time pursue biological and geo-scientific field research in the ice-free regions and the shallow waters near the coast – which is only possible in a handful of locations in the Antarctic.
